An insight into the Haussmann's Exhibition

On Wednesday we got to meet the curators for the Haussmann's exhibition and hear what they had to say about it! It felt like a one in a lifetime oportunity for me as a student, REALLY, REALLY EXCITING!

We started o gallery 2, where all the "finished" products are exposed... Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen, talked a bit a about the Haussmann's work and their role on Post-Modernism and Mannerism, how they met them and started the collaboration. They also talked about their work itself, the curatorial work, which was good, as this is something new to me, the more I hear about it the easier is to understand it.

We also heard from Nottingham Contemporary Director, Sam Thorne, who brought the exhibition to the Contemporary and helped a bit on the curatorial work. He gave some insight on the collaboration with Adam Caruso, one of the Contemporary's architects, who agreed upon an invite by Sam to design the exhibition space. He also told us about meeting Trix & Robert Haussmann in their house, which contains a very unusual red carpet covering the whole floor, that was one of the inspirations for the exhibition, as they brought the exact same model and colour to cover the stands where all the furniture and artwork is.

Gallery 1 contains the process (drawings, models, plans) and some artwork. Something great about it, is that they show the process in a very clear, simple and clean way, rather then the messiness of a sketchbook or a very complex plan. It is a mix of media (articles on the Haussmann's and their work, their beautiful hand-drawings and models.

The most intriguing part for me, was, when asked how different is the same exhibition here and back in Berlin, Fredi and Niels, both agreed that it was very different as the spaces are very different.
