The Haussmann's Curators Meet Up

Updated: Jul 17, 2018

On Thursday, the group went to visit the curators, Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen, who are in charge of setting up the space for the Haussmanns’ art exhibition this coming Friday.

I found them to be helpful in explaining why they are doing what they are doing, in terms of design. One of the most memorable thing was when the curators were explaining the concept of the red carpet on the plinth and how it was the same brand and colour as in the Haussmann's apartment. I felt like knowing that bit of information made me understand the Haussmann's’ more on a personal level, even though I’ve never met them. Also, knowing that the Haussmann’s used glass in many of their creations because it was affordable, not just because of the deceptive effect that it offers, enhanced my understanding of the couples thought processes.

The way they positioned certain items, such as the “Lehrstück VI, Spiegelperspektive” on the same wall that has an opening creates the illusion that there’s another room to be explored, which is interesting, creative and playful, just like the work of Trix and Robert Haussmann. Therefore, having such thoughtful arrangements clearly represent the items being exhibited.

The space itself was very bright and cosy, since this gallery space wasn’t as large as the ones in Lakeside, which created a compact, yet pleasant atmosphere.

Seeing the innovative, eclectic and creative items on display, and listening to the curators gave insight into the concept of Postmodernism and Critical Mannerism, as well as a glimpse into Trix and Robert Haussmann's world.
