Trix and Robert HAUSSMANN

About

Trix and Robert HAUSSMANN, Swiss architects and designers of the twentieth century. Profound for their experimental design innovations, concerning illusion and ambiguity in both architecture and furniture. Their works have been globally exhibited for over 50 years.

Manifesto

Haussmanns explore the ideology of blending diverse influences, from all design movements. Their wide spread of works including; architecture, product design, installation, furniture and textiles.

Haussmanns developed the theory in the form of the "Log-O-Rythmic Slide-Rule" which was used as a design tool in the 1980. It follows the same ideology as the bureaucratic slide rule: The concept demonstrates that an openness has to be maintained in order to preserve elements of surprise, resulting from the design process and to productively exploit the unpredictable.

They themselves refer to their approach as Manierismo Critico: “[…] taking up lost tradition, pursuing its further development and giving it a contemporary new interpretation – combined with humour and last, but not least, a touch of self-mockery.”

Their most highly acclaimed projects include the redesign of Zurich’s main station and the Galleria Hamburg.
